Secure side gate; keep side gates locked at all times. Open gates mean burglars can easily access your home without being seen by passers-by or neighbours. High side and rear boundaries with trellis and spiky defensive planting; keep hedges, walls and fences around your back garden high (over 1.8 metres).

The gates have to be kept open since the newspaper delivery person, postman, utility bill delivery person and others visit the house when the home owner is away. In some cases, the robbers will dig the soil to uproot and remove the plants .

It's frustrating when you come home to find that plants have been stolen from your garden, but there are several things you can do to deter plant theft and protect your property. First, consider installing motion-sensor lights or a security camera system to deter potential thieves. Second, consider placing thorny plants around the perimeter of your garden to create a natural barrier. Third, install a fence or gate around your garden to make it more difficult for people to access. Finally, be sure to report any plant theft to the police so they can keep an eye out for suspicious activity in the area.
