Laughter can increase your oxygen intake, which can in turn stimulate your heart, lungs, and muscles. Laughing further releases endorphins, the feel-good chemicals our bodies produce to make us feel happy and even relieve pain or stress

The perception of humor varies from person to person due to a combination of individual factors, such as personal experiences, cultural background, and cognitive processes. Here are some reasons why people find jokes or situations funny or not:

1. **Cultural Differences**: Humor often depends on cultural norms and references. What's funny in one culture may not be in another.

2. **Personal Experiences**: Past experiences, including childhood and life experiences, can shape one's sense of humor. People often find humor in situations they can relate to.

3. **Cognitive Style**: Some individuals may have a more analytical or logical thinking style, while others have a more creative or spontaneous style, influencing what they find funny.

4. **Timing**: The timing of a joke or a situation can greatly affect its humor. Well-timed humor tends to be funnier.

5. **Incongruity**: Many jokes are funny because they involve unexpected or incongruous elements, creating surprise and laughter.

6. **Social Norms**: What's considered appropriate or taboo in a given social context can influence whether something is found funny.

7. **Personality**: Different personalities may have different senses of humor. For example, some people enjoy dark humor, while others prefer light-hearted comedy.

8. **Individual Preferences**: People have different preferences for humor styles, such as wordplay, observational humor, satire, or slapstick.

9. **Emotional State**: Your current emotional state can influence what you find funny. For example, people may find humor more appealing when they are in a good mood.

10. **Group Dynamics**: Humor can be contagious, and people often find things funny when they are in a group, influenced by the reactions of others.

Ultimately, humor is subjective, and what one person finds funny, another might not. It's a complex interplay of individual differences, experiences, and cultural context.

I think you’re born with it. It can be environmentally nurtured, but some people are just not funny or enjoy humor. I came from a broken family and my stepfather beat me from ages 8 till about 11. Both of my step parents were pretty toxic when I was younger. I always appreciated something that uplifted my spirit. Later on I was able to form my own humorous responses to ridiculous situations and over time, I developed a love of comedy. My heroes in my youth were Monty Python, Mel Brooks, Carlin, Pryor, and Mark Twain. All of those guys could implement physical humor, slapstick, and throw serious shade at their detractors.

The reason why some people find certain jokes or situations funny while others don't is a complex and multifaceted question. On a psychological level, humor is related to a person's sense of incongruity, or the ability to perceive something as being out of the ordinary or unexpected. Additionally, studies have shown that people with a higher level of cognitive flexibility tend to find more things funny, as they can appreciate different perspectives and recognize the absurdity in certain situations. Ultimately, humor is subjective and can vary depending on a person's life experiences, culture, and even mood.
